The Gospel

1 Corinthian 15:1-4

1) Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. 2) It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.

3) I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4) He was buried, and He was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.”

The Roman’s Road

  1. Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

  1. Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  1. Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

  1. Romans 10:9-10 – “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

  1. Romans 8:1 – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

So, to summarize the Gospel: all have sinned and fall short of God’s standard; the consequence of sin is death, but God offers eternal life through Jesus; God loves us and sent Jesus to die for us; we must confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead in order to be saved; and when we do, we are no longer condemned but given new life in Christ.

The 5 Solas

  1. Sola Gratia (Grace Alone): This means that Salvation is a gift of God’s Grace and not something that can be earned or deserved. It asserts that we are saved by God’s Grace alone, apart from any merit or good works of our own.
  2. Sola Fide (Faith Alone): This means that Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone and not through any works or merit of our own. It asserts that we are justified by Faith in Christ and that good works are the result of our Salvation, not the cause of it.
  3. Solus Christus (Christ Alone): This means that Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and humanity. It asserts that Salvation is found only in Christ and that no other name under heaven can Save us.
  4. Soli Deo Gloria (Glory to God Alone): This means that all things are to be done for the Glory of God alone. It asserts that everything in life should be done to Honor and Glorify God and that our ultimate purpose is to bring glory to Him.
  5. Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone): This means that the Bible is the only authoritative source for Christian faith and practice. It asserts that the Bible is sufficient for all matters of Christian life and that no other source of authority is necessary. The belief is that the Bible is the ultimate authority, and everything else must be evaluated and tested against it.
