The Men’s Ministry started a Christmas outreach called ‘The Janice Holloway Christmas Pantry and Missions’ (named after the late Janice Holloway). It aims to gather and distribute canned goods and other non-perishable items to the needy families of the New Brockton community for Christmas.

The church opened its doors for the Men’s Ministry, and the men of the church gathered that Saturday afternoon to pray, encouraged to intercede for the church and revival in the town of New Brockton. This event was inspired by Mrs. Jennifer Pope’s ‘Power of Prayer’ session earlier that year.

Leon Adams, the former Pastor of Park Ave. Baptist Church of Enterprise, Alabama, along with Dr. John Granger, the esteemed Pastor of The Church on Boll Weevil Circle in Enterprise, delivered sermons for FBC New Brockton’s congregation every Sunday morning in the absence of a Pastor. Kay Clark from New Home Baptist Church took the role of Sound Director for a temporary time.  While Jan Moore from Damascus Baptist Church graced the Church with her musical talents as a pianist during this time.

During this time membership was 528. The Church voted to completely renovate all the Church Facilities. It was done in three phases (Total cost at $185,000). When all three phase were completed the value of the Church was $585,000.

The Coffee County Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society Prayer retreat was held at First Baptist Church of New Brockton. Rev. M. T. Gales spoke on 17th chapter of the Gospel of John, then he asked each of the ladies to open their Bible and selected Scripture and give time for personal Testimonies. He Close the devotion period by singing “Teach me to Pray”

The Church bought adequate secretarial equipment. Under Dr. Rev. J. B. Johnson’s leadership, a Church library was Established and equipped and plans inaugurated for its serves to the Church.

From 1953 – 1957

Marking a Great Spiritual Awakening in First Baptist Church of New Brockton and for the first time in the history of the Church, men and women answered the calling of God for the Ministry and Missionary work.

Those that answered the call: Miss Peggy Helms, Miss Sarah Nell Peacock, Miss Linda Lou Jones, Mr. Richard L. Hayes, Mr. James Maddox, Mr. James C. Mezick, Mr. Jimmy D. Sawyer, Mr. Eldrid Ellis and John Ed Sawyer.

The Church had the pleasure of licensing Mr. Richard L. Hayes, Mr. James Maddox, Mr. James C. Mezick, Mr. Jimmy D. Sawyer, Mr. Eldrid Ellis and John Ed Sawyer.

The Church later Ordained three of these young men Mr. Richard L. Hayes, Mr. James C. Mezick and Mr. Jimmy D. Sawyer.

Miss Peggy Helms, Miss Sarah Nell Peacock and Miss Linda Lou Jones advanced their education and prepared for Missionary Work.

Ground was broken form the Educational Building, free workers ditched, hauled sand and unloaded bricks, etc.. Materials were bought and delivered to the Church at whole sale price by J. B. Maddox and Colley Pittman Mere. Co.. (Total cost for the Building and furnishings – $31,360.78)

Oct. 4th, 1953

Because of rapid growth of the Church, there was a great need for a larger facility. The Sunday School attendance surpassed all goals at 330 (and training union attendance was at 178), The Sunday School had outgrown the Church Building so they were meeting in the Theater, City Hall, and a Warehouse. The Church unanimously voted and plans were made for an educational building to be erected. The Building and Furnishing Committee was: S. D. Fuller, S. T. Jones, and J. B. Maddox.

The Great Evangelical movement swept over the Southland, it was felt in First Baptist Church of New Brockton. God poured His Spirit out in a marvelous way and the Church experienced a Great Revival. Rev. C. M. Mezick (Pastor), was the Evangelist for the revival and Rev. L. A. Gable (of Charlotte, NC) was Music Director.

A Meeting was called for all the Teachers and Officers of the Sunday School of First Baptist Church of New Brockton at the Church. For the purpose to work out plans to reach the goal of 200 attendance for Sunday School.

February, 1953

Rev. Clarence M. Mezick was called by the Church and served as Pastor (severed to Feb. 1957). The Church also adopted the budget plan for the Alabama Baptist (which was to put a copy of of the Alabama Baptist in every home of all the church members). New pulpit furniture was bought for the Church.

There was 85 Baptisms in his first 20 mouths of Service.

The Men of Church organized the Men’s Brotherhood (the First in the Coffee County Baptist Association and in the State of Alabama). Rev. R. M. Hunter (founder of the Church) was presented and given special recognition as founder of the Church.

First Baptist Church of New Brockton became a full time church for the first time.

1924

The Old Church building had served congregation well, the congregation grew to over 150 members. During the Pastorate of Rev. J. S. Johnson, plans were made for a new Church building. the site for the new building was chose to be at the corner of McKinnon St. and Massey St. (currently know as Lee St.) (which is the present Location). The lot was secured from Professor J. J. Langham. (Committee that secured the lot: J. G. Crumpler and J. T. Jones.)

Those serving on the building committee were; H. L. Crabtree, J. A. Wright and S. D. Fuller. The new brick building was completed. (the total cost was $13,800.00).

Rev. (Dr.) J. A. Lowery (of Newton, AL) (President of the Baptist Collegiate Institute at Newton) was called by the Church and served as Pastor. The Church starting buying Baptist Young People’s Union material, also. New Brockton Baptist was active in Women’s and Young People Missionary organizations. The Young People’s leader was Mrs. N. R. Phillips.

Rev. Dallas P. Lee (from Elba Baptist, Elba, AL) was called by the Church and served as Pastor for one year (until 1909).

During this time Mr. J. A. Wright and Mr. J. N. Wallace (Church Laymen), helped lead the Church in Improvements; purchasing new pews (until that time they use crude plank seats). ($900.00 = $100.00 down payment, $10.00 monthly payment).

The 1st Annual Session of the Coffee County Baptist Association was held at Calvary Baptist Church (Enterprise , AL). The was a consolidated session of the Pea River Baptist Association and Haw Ridge Baptist Association. New Brockton Baptist Church (being a member of the Pea River Baptist Association previously) joined Thirty-Two other Churches that comprised the membership of the Coffee County Baptist Association.

New Brockton Baptist was without a Pastor during this time, but had messengers at this association meeting. They were Mr. R. Scheffer and Mr. E. D. Brooks. Also at this meeting Four Missionary Societies were represented and recognized; New Brockton, Calvary, Enterprise and Elba.

1907

The streets were not laid off then and being near the business section and the railroad it was decided to move the Church Building was moved (rolled on Logs) 400 feet to the East, on the Southwest corner of the intersection of Massey St. (currently Lee St.) and Byrd’s Mill Road (currently known as Church St.).

Thanksgiving Day, 1906

The Merchants of The Town of Brockton closed their doors and went to Brockton Baptist Church, Speaker was Rev. Robert M. Hunter (Pastor of Brockton).

Mr. J. A. Wright (Church Layman) led the Church to advance at its every opportunity, he was instrumental in aiding the Church to purchase it first Musical instrument, an pump organ (at the price of $55).

The Ladies Aid (currently known as W.M.U.) was organized. (The W.M.U. since 1906 has been one of the strong arms of this Church and a pillar of the Community). Mrs. R.M. Hunter (The Pastor’s Wife) was the Leader.

1905

The members of the Church continues to worship in the Brockton School Building until plan to build a Church Building were made, the Building Committee was: Mr. E. G. Brunson, Mr. W. B. Harper, Mr. Hugh Brock (the Founder of the Town Brockton), Mr. J. P. Phillips, Rev. C. L. Matthews (Brockton Baptist Pastor).

Mr. Hugh Brock (founded of Town Brockton) gave a lot for the Church to be built. The lot was located near the Atlantic Coast Line Depot, on the Byrd’s Mill Road (at that time was the public dirt road leading from Elba to Enterprise, this road is currently know as Church St), (which was near the washeteria (1950’s).

The church building was completed (at the cost of $90 for Material), with volunteer labor for Construction. The dedication service was held by Rev. C. L. Matthews (Brockton Baptist Pastor). Winston W. Moore (of Goodman, AL) was baptized and joined Brockton Baptist Church at this dedication service.

Sunday, July 13th, 1902

The Brockton Baptist Church held service at the Brockton School Building, this is where Rev. Robert M. Hunter ended the revival meeting. Great crowds flocked to the School House to hear the Gospel preached,

9 a.m. Rev. Robert M. Hunter Baptized the first to join the Church for Baptism (Miss Mattie Wilson, Miss Josie Wilson, Miss Jessie Brock , Miss Ida McCree, Miss Florence Marsh, Miss Collie Brunson and Miss Pearl Dean), in the Byrd’s Mill Pond. At 11 a.m. Rev. Hunter preached at the school House during the fall of a very fine rain.

Thursday, July 10th, 1902

The Brockton Baptist Church was constituted with Rev. Robert M. Hunter (Pastor of the Elba and Enterprise Baptist Churches), and Rev J. M. Moore (of New Brockton) being the Presbytery that aided in the organizing of the Church.

The Constituent members were: Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harper, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Brunson, Mr. and Mrs. Dock Taylor, Rev. and Mrs. J. M. Moore, Miss Bertie Brunson, Miss Bessie Brunson, Miss Berchie McGee, Mrs. Malissa Marsh and Mr. Ed Brunson. The Meeting Place of the newly organized Church was in the New Brockton School building located on the South Side of Massy Street (currently known as Lee St.) and West Side Byrd’s Mill Road (currently known as Church St.).

Rev. Critten Livingston Matthews (of Ozark, AL) was called as the first Pastor (until 1905), (The Church made Rapid progress under Rev. Matthews.) Committee appointed to build a house of Worship for a Missionary Baptist.

June 30th – July 13th, 1902

Rev. Robert M. Hunter (Pastor of Elba and Enterprise Baptist Churches) had Revival Meetings in the Town of Brockton, 21 people joined the “Church” (came to Christ), plan to organize a Baptist Church was started.

One day in 1902

Rev. J. M. Moore and son (Obe), had returned from the field and were sitting on the porch. When they looked up, they saw a man with a long mustache dressed in a long frock tailed coat and high hat coming toward the house. Rev. Moore said, “Son, I’ve never seen that man before, but I’m Sure he is a preacher.” He came to the porch and introduced himself as Rev. Robert M. Hunter, of Birmingham. He told them he had come for the purpose of trying to organize a Baptist Church in Brockton, because Brockton did not have one.

There was an election held in the Town of Brockton, Alabama that Incorporated it as a Municipality. The Election was held a H. E. Brock’s Store. Was sealed by F. M. Rushing, Judge of Probate
